Bryzgalov aims to carry Flyers to the Stanley Cup

July 12 CSN Philly

The Anaheim connection to the 2007 Stanley Cup will continue again this season with the Flyers.  Last year, it was Chris Pronger and Sean O’Donnell.  This year? Pronger and goalie Ilya Bryzgalov, the backup to Jean-Sebastien Giguere that 2006-07 season on the Left Coast.  Bryzgalov appeared in just five playoff games that spring, but he won a Cup – and knows what it takes to win.

Bryzgalov has Cup No. 1 on his agenda

July 12 Camden Courier-Post

Ilya Bryzgalov wants to accomplish what no goalie other than Bernie Parent has done for the Flyers: Win a Stanley Cup.  The 31-year-old Russian understands the pressure of being a goaltender in Philadelphia, and he’s up for the challenge. After shuffling goalies in and out of the lineup for years, the Flyers are counting on Bryzgalov to be the man in net.  “I want to be the guy who can carry this team,” Bryzgalov said in a conference call Monday. “I want to help this team win the Stanley Cup because people in Philadelphia and the organization have waited long enough. I want to win the Stanley Cup also and I think we have similar ideas, similar goals. That’s why we have to work hard and reach this goal. Pressure. We have to deal with the pressure every way and every day in our lives, hockey, everywhere.”

Flyers’ preseason to begin Sept. 20 in Toronto

July 12 CSN Philly

The Flyers will play six preseason games this fall, starting with a home-and-home series against the Toronto Maple Leafs on consecutive nights.  Toronto hosts the Flyers on Sept. 20 at Air Canada Centre. The next night, the same two clubs are at the Wells Fargo Center.  It’s part of four straight nights of play as the Flyers meet the Detroit Red Wings at John Labatt Center in London, Ont., on Sept. 22, then hop on over to the Joe Louis Arena to meet the Red Wings the next night, as well.”

Schenn Shines As Prospect Camp Ends

July 11 Philly Sports Daily

VOORHEES, N.J. — The spotlight has been on Brayden Schenn ever since he was traded for Mike Richards. Although there isn’t much pressure to be had in July, Schenn still delivered at the Flyers’ prospect camp.  He was a man amongst boys on Monday in the prospect camp scoring three goals and an assist in a scrimmage, capping off a week that impressed those watching him.  “He’s been through this before with Los Angeles before over the last couple years. I think that gave him a little bit of an edge — that and the fact that he’s one of the better players here,” general manager Paul Holmgren said. “I’m really happy with how the week went.”
