OK, it’s unlikely that this caused the earthquake today, but it can’t necessarily be discounted either.
Cole Hamels is going to the 15-day disabled list with shoulder inflammation, per CSN Philly. After skipping his last start while he deals with what he termed a “dead arm period”, the Phillies have decided to give Hamels some additional rest.
Originally planning to start this coming Friday, the move to the DL will give Hamels a couple extra days off. The good news is, since the designation is retroactive Hamels can be activated this coming Sunday. He is already scheduled to start on Monday, August 29.
The Phillies also could use the roster spot for an an extra player with Raul Ibanez dealing with a sore groin. To that end, they have called up utility man Pete Orr.
Orr, 32, has been in Triple-A with Lehigh Valley, hitting 271 with five home runs and 25 RBIs in 68 games.
Here’s to no more DL trips and no more shaking buildings, not necessarily in that order.
