“No matter who assumes the role of Phillies closer between Ryan Madson and Jose Contreras because of Brad Lidge’s injury, the team has another hole to fill. It’s simple math, as manager Charlie Manuel explained. “We have two guys there,” Manuel said Friday. “We had three. Now we have two.”
Polanco expects to be ready to go

“The results weren’t exactly what Placido Polanco was looking for in his first game back after hyperextending his right elbow, but he said he’s still confident he can be 100 percent for Opening Day. Polanco went 0-for-2 with a ground out to short and a fly out to right, but the bigger concern was a twinge he felt in his elbow after his second swing of the day.
