Phillies outlast rain, Braves for 90th victory

September 7 CSN Philly

It’s amazing what a victory can do for someone’s attitude.  Charlie Manuel was not all that happy as the rain fell Tuesday afternoon. Maybe it was because batting practice got washed out. Manuel is a hitting junkie who loves batting practice. Or maybe it was because he had to sit through a nearly two-hour rain delay before the first pitch – and then through a three-hour, five-minute game in which it rained the whole way.

Assistant GM LaMar resigns from Phillies post

September 7 CSN Philly

Chuck LaMar, a Phillies assistant general manager, resigned his post after four seasons with the club on Tuesday. LaMar spent the last three seasons overseeing the Phils’ minor-league system.  LaMar resigned after a morning meeting with general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. and Benny Looper, the team’s assistant GM in charge of player personnel.  “After some discussion, it seemed like for Chuck it would be the best situation to go ahead and resign,” Amaro said.

Lee named NL Pitcher of Month

September 7 Courier-Post

It’s another rainy night at the ballpark. Players were in the clubhouse checking out the radar on their Ipads, and manager Charlie Manuel had the TV in his office glued to the weather channel. The Phillies already have 2 doubleheaders coming in the next few weeks, and they don’t want to play another tomorrow. Neither do the Braves, who already playing a doubleheader on Thursday. So they don’t want 2 straight days of doubleheaders.  So we wait.

Ailing Howard eyes typical strong finish for Phillies

September 7 CSN Philly

Ryan Howard walked gingerly across the Phillies’ clubhouse, had short chat with Jimmy Rollins before continuing his tender-footed walk to his car. Howard has bursitis in his Achilles tendon, which is the reason for the Fred Sanford-styled stroll, but when he has to move, he can.  Take, for instance, the way Howard tracked down a drifting foul ball hit by Alex Gonzalez with one out in the fifth inning of Monday night’s game against the Braves at the Bank.
