For two nights in Milwaukee, Charlie Manuel tinkered with his lineup card, hoping to find some rest for his regulars and shake off the rust from his bench. For two nights, the plan worked.  Saturday, Manuel went to the well once more – but this time it took the late arrival of a few regulars to bring home the win. Ryan Howard’s diving stab at first base saved a double in the bottom of the ninth, and Raul Ibanez scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th after a leadoff double.

Odds are, Chase Utley won’t be back in the Phillies’ lineup until they return home Thursday, but the early results following concussion tests Saturday were encouraging.  Utley is showing no symptoms of a concussion, and test results Saturday showed near baseline results — meaning the risk of any long-term problems was minimal.  “It’s positive, very positive,” assistant GM Scott Proefrock said

Chase Utley has been cleared to resume physical activity after suffering a concussion when he was hit in the head by a pitch Wednesday night.  Utley showed no symptoms of the concussion when he was evaluated by doctors in Philadelphia on Saturday, according to assistant general manager Scott Proefrock.

Roy Halladay cheated on the pitch as much as he could, getting his bat moving as the ball left Bronson Arroyo’s hand.  The gamble worked, and Halladay slapped a line drive down the first-base line for a three-run double.  “Lucky,” Halladay said after getting a big hit in his win over the Reds last month. “I’ve been saving them, I guess. You go a couple years without one, you should have a couple coming.”
