Halladay OK after heat exhaustion, loss to Cubs

July 19 CSN Philly

Roy Halladay made his first start since the all-star break Monday night, but he was Roy Halladay in name only.  The Phillies ace, a physical specimen who usually needs to be ripped from the mound with a tow hook, left Monday night’s game with head athletic trainer Scott Sheridan at his side without recording an out in the fifth inning.  Official cause of the early exit: The heat.  “He was hot and dizzy,” manager Charlie Manuel said.

Polanco still hurting, won’t come off DL Wednesday

July 19 CSN Philly

Placido Polanco is eligible to come off the disabled list on Wednesday, but that will not happen.  The Phillies third baseman is still feeling pain from a bulging disc in his lower back, and after taking anti-inflammatory pills for more than a week now believes he needs an epidural injection to speed his recovery.  “The idea was thrown out by the doctors in Philly,” Polanco said late Monday afternoon. “They say they really help. I’ve tried rest and medication. I’m at the point where I think I’ll have the injection. It’s still sore.”

Manuel’s trade wish list includes hitter, reliever

July 19 CSN Philly

It was just about a month ago that Charlie Manuel expressed his desire to add a hitter before the trade deadline.  Manuel’s wish list has grown.  Two weeks before the trade deadline, he’d like to add some bullpen help, as well.  “We definitely could use a reliever, without a doubt,” Manuel said before Monday’s game against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. “But we also could use a bat.”  Manuel doesn’t want just any bullpen piece or any bat.
