Phils hammer Marlins with the long ball

June 15 Allentown Morning Call:

Dr. Phil McGraw was staring Marlins players in the face Tuesday evening.  Don’t get the wrong idea. Dr. Phil was only on the clubhouse TV, but with the way things have gone lately for Florida, maybe some advice from the renowned therapist wouldn’t be such a bad idea.  After wrapping up a 1-10 home stand in Florida, the Marlins opened up a four-game series in Philadelphia with a 9-1 loss on Tuesday at Citizens Bank Park.

Cole Hamels’ back should be all right

June 15 LehighValleyLive.com:

Cole Hamels was straight dealing last night against the Marlins. The offense was straight rolling, ringing the bell at Citizen Bank Park like Sarah Palin’s version of Paul Revere — over and over and over.  But then Cole left the game a bit early and fear set it. Charlie Manuel and Cole quelled that a bit by saying his lower back was just a bit stiff due to the rain delay, cold weather, etc. and Manuel says he should be “all right.” Good to hear, as Cole is simply one of the best pitchers in the game today.

Halladay set to take mound for nightcap

June 15 Camden Courier-Post:

It’s one of those little details that tends to pique curiosity without holding any real significance, but Charlie Manuel still prefers to keep his methodology top secret.  The Phillies will play a doubleheader today, with Kyle Kendrick getting the start in the early game and Roy Halladay pitching the nightcap.

Worley could return to Phillies on Saturday

June 15 CSN Philly:

Phillies manager Charlie Manuel wasn’t ready to name his starting pitcher for Saturday night’s game in Seattle, but when he gets around to it, there’s a pretty good chance it will be Vance Worley.  “We kind of know what we’re going to do,” Manuel said before Tuesday night’s game against Florida. “But we haven’t made a decision yet.”

Kendrick not threatened by possible return of Worley

June 15 Allentown Morning Call:

Vance Worley’s name could be on the lineup card Saturday.  Kyle Kendrick, who’s been filling in for Joe Blanton in the rotation, insists he’s not threatened by the possible addition of Worley.  “I’m starting until they say different,” the 26-year-old said. “I’m in the rotation. So, just because we have an opening Saturday doesn’t mean I’m out of the rotation. I’m not worried about it.”

Davis, another Penn grad, to sign with Phillies

June 15 CSN Philly:

Will Davis was on vacation with his high school friends in Florida without any Internet service when he got a text message. It was from his father, who was monitoring the Major League Baseball draft to see if Davis would be selected. The message read: We still love you.  “I figured at that point that was gonna be it for me,” said Davis, a former star catcher on the Penn baseball team.  It wasn’t.
