Victorino’s big game guides Phillies over Mariners

June 19 CSN Philly:

As Jimmy Rollins made his way to the plate in the top of the seventh inning with runners on second and third in a tie game Saturday night, Seattle Mariners pitching coach Carl Willis went to the mound to chat with his pitcher, Felix Hernandez.  Shane Victorino took it all in from the on-deck circle.

Seems Madson always aims to please

June 19 Allentown Morning Call:

With most of the team making the lengthy trek to Orlando for the last road game of spring training, Ryan Madson and several other pitchers stayed behind at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla.  Madson made a conscious effort to keep the mood light. He sat around a table with a few teammates, including Joe Blanton and Brad Lidge, and offered to make hot tea in a French press.  “Mentally, I just thought to myself they might pitch around Jimmy and take their chances on me because I’m a little more aggressive,” Victorino said.

Lakewood righthander Buchanan getting high praise

June 19 Philly.com:

Steve Schrenk, the pitching coach at single-A Lakewood, watches David Buchanan at work and sees a young Kyle Kendrick.  “I had Kyle here,” Schrenk said last week. “He was a high school kid when he was here, but he had the same kind of sink and the same kind of makeup and they are built the same.”  Buchanan, in his first full professional season after being drafted in the seventh round last year, said he has heard the same comparison from Gorman Heimueller, the Phillies’ minor-league pitching coordinator.
