The Phillies have announced that third baseman Placido Polanco has been activated from the Disabled List and will be available for today’s game.

Polanco had been out for a few weeks with left elbow inflammation caused by bone spurs.

On Polanco’s return, Charlie Manuel said, “It’s going to help a whole lot.  It’s going to give us a .300 hitter in the top of the order. That’s what it’s going to do for us.”

To make room, the Phillies have released light hitting (to put it mildly) utility infielder Juan Castro.
