Phillies SS Jimmy Rollins

August 21 Wilmington News Journal

“More than one-third of Jimmy Rollins’ season total of stolen bases have come in his last eight games. That’s both a good thing and a bad thing for the Phillies.

The downside is that Rollins has just 14 steals through Thursday. That’s well below his career average of 38 per season, and Rollins’ lack of action on the base paths has hindered the Phillies’ offense.

The good news, however, is that after a season decimated by injuries, Rollins is finally feeling good and using his wheels to torment the opposition.

“It does a lot to your game having to hold a guy like that on,” pitcher Joe Blanton said. “When you’re picking so much and worried about holding your looks, it can affect your pitching. The guys behind him, it gets them good pitches to hit.”

Rollins had two stints on the DL this season, then spent a few weeks limping after fouling a ball off his foot last month. But last week, he started feeling better and started getting back into the running game.”
